TheMMAC SL was inspired by a project of Chuck Brownley, known in SL as Dash Renoir. He has opened the real life Multi Media Arts Center, in suburban New Jersey, USA. TheMMAC SL will continues to operate in Second Life, integrated with TheMMAC RL activities.

Having joined SL in 1/27/07 to showcase his music and film work, Brownley, a concert producer, a club operator, a musician, an indie filmmaker ... has spent a lot of time logged into SL. After a successful run of in world performances showcasing his band Suburban Dog, during a week spent practicing to 'build', he intended just to model the real life MMAC. But encouraged by other SL residents, TheMMAC SL was built on the corner of four sims (land), radically redesigned given technology constrains, resulting in a unique virtual venue.

Over the course of the last year, the Multi Media Arts Center has become a global showcase in Second Life, sharing the mission now with the real world MMAC.
